In 2005, Molloy College history was made when junior centerfielder, Joe Holden, from Wantagh, N.Y. was drafted by the New York Mets. Holden was picked in the 21st round of the 2005 Major League Baseball first-year player draft. Holden is the first player in the 14-year history of the baseball program to be drafted. Holden, also named the Northeast Region Player of the Year and the NYCAC Player of the Year, had an incredible season for the Lions. He hit .390 with 49 runs scored, 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 50 RBI. Holden had a .744 slugging percentage, a .462 on base percentage, a .973 fielding percentage and stole 14 bases for Molloy. He finished 10th in the NYCAC in batting average, third in hits, first in runs, first in RBI, fourth in triples, first in home runs, first in total bases and third in stolen bases. In the Nation, he finished the season ranked 19th in home runs and 27th in slugging percentage.
